We had our first class test today. Although I got 11/20 for the class test, but I had try my best.

After this test, I understand more of the Internet resources and realise where is my mistake.

The lecture for today is about evaluating the information on the Internet. Then we had an activity for us to practice on evaluating the information. We were asked to go into a website call talkingcork.com. This is a website for people to post their view about Singapore. But most of the post was joking about Singapore.

In our group, we were asked to evaluate the information on the talkingcork.com website as a stand of a Singaporean. From a Singaporean view, I can say that this website is quite useful in a way for letting us to express out our opinions of the things going on in Singapore.

I really enjoy this activity as it turn out to be quite fun. We had to debate against the other two groups. Through this activity, I had know more on evaluating Internet information.

I’m really looking forward for the next lesson.

Today lesson was quite interesting. Our lecture had taught us on going to the invisible website to check out for information.

Invisible web is a collection of information stored in the form of data. Many are maintained by government agencies and non-profit organizations.

After exploring the invisible website, I found out that there are some advantages in searching high-quality authoritative information, as the information in the invisible website would not be able to find on the normal search facilities. All the information found in this website is in the form of database. Therefore, it benefits us in many ways by giving us more detailed information and widen our search.

However, the invisible website is not really more effective than search engines, Meta search and subject directories. This was because not all topics could be found in the invisible website. Unlike the search engines, it has a wide range of result.

But of course, I will still use invisible website to search for my result in future if I want more detailed information.

Invisible website has its pro and con.

Monday~~ Holiday!
Today I had done some research on my topic Impact of water pollution on sea creature.

Below is a list of some undesirable effects of water pollution:

1. It is harmful to the normal marine flora and fauna living in its beds.
Bodies of water are one of the richest ecosystems of the earth. It is a home for the plants and marine life, and also a very rich source of food being home to schools of fishes, a wide array of shell food, edible seaweeds and delectable squids. Therefore without it, a shortage of food choices is limited.

2. It is harmful to the human body when ingested.
A man can't last for days without water, so if the water sources like dams start to be contaminated, the people are prone to develop a variety of diseases caused by microorganisms and contaminants.

3. It affects various jobs and occupations.
E.g Farmers will not be able to grow plants with dirty water as irrigation. Fish folks will not be able to catch fishes and other seafood without it.

Today I had join in the discussion forum with the class. It was quite fun and it seem like chatting with our friends on the forum instead of MSN.

Today was Friday, time really past very fast! I had already attended four lessons on EIR. Till now, i find EIR was a useful module.

As usual, the lecture start off with going through the notes for today. I today learn two new search engine - Meta Search Engine and Yahoo Directory.

These search engine are really very useful!

For me, I would prefer using Yahoo Directory and Google Scholar. After all the research and exploring, I had compare those search engine (google search, scholar google search, meta search and yahoo directory) and I found out that the information for the Yahoo Directory is more useful and refined. The information found in the Google Scholar are more straight forward and get straight to the point I am looking for.

I think I won't use Meta crawler to search for my information in the future. This was because the search in Meta crawler are too wide and there are too many information to read. The many pages of information really confuse me. However if I need a lot of research, maybe I can consider using Meta crawler.

Next, I had just finish making the site feed. Mainly, site feed is to make the blog more wordy as it had remove the blog skin.

Same as last two days, our lecture start off with going through the notes. Next, an activity was given to us.

Today i learn how to search information through search engine in a more effective ways through Advance Google search and Scholar Google search. This is my first time using Scholar Google to search for information. I find it very useful as it contains more information then the usual Google search. Although the pages of information were lesser then the normal Google search, but the information in there is more refined.

Personally i prefer Scholar Google search. Below is summary of the comparison of Advance Google search and Scholar Google search to see which is the most effective way.

Google scholar is more effective in helping me to find the resources I want. This was because, the information are more focus and would also produce the exact information I need. As compared to the Advance Google search, it takes more time to produce the result and there is more unrelated information.

I would explain more in the report i write of the differences at the end of the block.

I had register for the forum relate to my topic, which is the effects of water pollution on sea creature to participate discussion on the forum. This is really my first time to participate the discussion on the forum. The feeling was quite scary and i had to think twice before posting up the question. However, after having this experience, I become more daring in posting question on the forum in the future.

Leturer continue on teaching us the importance of having citation and bibliography.Having citation and bibliography is to acknowledge the source of information and plagiarism.

The website that I had go to was mainly on organisational except for the blog i go, it was personal. Purposes of these website is on information and business/marketing, it gave the information on the prices. They are also doing business by selling the products online.

I am looking forward for today lesson because i want to learn more!

Our lecture first start off with explaining the notes of the different purposes of internet resources. The topics of the different purposes of internet resources are - Information, Advocacy, Business/Marketing, News, Personal, Entertainment.

Now, it was my favourite part of the lesson. We were given time to create our own blog. But i had done it yesterday, therefore i move on to the next assignment. We had to search through the internet online shopping to buy our items.

Assignment: if i have $500, what items will i buy.

How I hope this was real! So now, I am going to "buy" my items. Bye

Today is my first lesson on Effective Internet Research. Our lecture, Ms Noor Faridah had roughly brief us on what are the assignments that we need to complete.

Our class had been divided into groups. We played a game on answering questions for the topic we choose. Our group had chosen sports as our topic. I realize that we are quite fast in answering those questions, as we had separate our work by answering a question each. Maybe this is our team sprite. Some research were done in order to answer those questions. Therefore, I had make used of what I had learn today by using the internet resources to get the informations I want.

Next, our lecture brief us on more details for assignment one. A topic had to be choosen for assignment one, and i had chosen The effects/impact of water pollution on sea creature as my topic.

After attending this very first lesson, i found out that i had really learn a lot. I learn there are more effective ways to search for the information.

Hi~ I'm Pei Shi, 19 this year. Currently studying at temasek design school - Product And Industrial Design, year 2. My course is about conceptualizing ideas, sketching new concepts and producing out the final product. In this course, i really learn a lot of new stuff that would prepare me for the future life.

I had a family of 6, dad, mom, grandfather, grandmother and lastly my little brother and me. My brother was younger than me by 1 years old, all my relative say we two really look alike.

In my free time, i would relax myself by watching my favorite drama and listening to music. But most of the time i would meet up with my friends to play badminton. I love to play badminton, it was my favorite sport!
